A competition where scientific high schools compete to realize their dreams of having a state-of-the-art laboratory where they can experience science first hand, falling in love with research and its opportunities. A competition where students can become researchers, experience the thrill of discovery and have a foretaste of their professional future. The Mad for Science project is a competition involving Italian high schools and launched by DiaSorin, an Italian leading company in biotechnology and innovation, in 2016. Thanks to the experience gained in the Mad for Science project, the constant dialogue with the teachers taking part in the project and the role of school as a breeding ground for new generations and for future scientists, in 2020 DiaSorin has renewed its commitment and has turned Mad for Science from a social responsibility project to DiaSorin Foundation’s core project. A fresh start built on a four-year legacy that will enable the Foundation to pursue its initial aim: nurturing passion for science in young people.

The DiaSorin Foundation, which has been established in 2020, aims at inspiring young talents to pursue science careers, fostering collaboration between Science and School, improving teachers’ training, furthering the value of science as a strategic leverage for social progress. How? Working with Schools, Universities, Research Institutions to share skills and knowledge, talent and resources, point of views and experiences and promote initiatives to bring students and teachers closer to science, helping them experience its complexity and challenges while capturing its value to Society – hence the aim of the Mad for Science project.

These objectives drive the Foundation’s projects and are closely related to the decision to appoint Francesca Pasinelli as Chairwoman. Francesca Pasinelli, General Manager of Telethon Foundation, has always been committed to promoting scientific research in the biomedical field and give concrete opportunities to young talents.

The DiaSorin Foundation expresses itself through its projects and its website, which is primarily dedicated to Education.  The Foundation’s website aims to be a place where people can talk about science and scientific discoveries, share knowledge and find resources to learn more about scientific disciplines igniting, thus, Italian students’ passion for science and hands-on experiments.
