Description

Discovered just over thirty years ago thanks to the intuition of an American scientist, the PCR technique has revolutionised the world of science and currently boasts numerous applications, including in highly diverse fields. For example, thanks to PCR, it is possible to perform forensic investigation, nutritional and microbiological testing of foods, or even evolutionary studies and molecular genetics.
The first part of the presentation outlines how this technology functions, the role of components needed to perform a PCR and the fields of application, while the second part focuses on two variants: RT-PCR and real-time PCR, also called quantitative PCR.
